A court ruling has made it possible for colleges to pay their student athletes directly for their name, image and likeness and it’s opened not just a can, but an entire bucket of worms. Doug dives deep into the implications for college sports across the board, especially sports that do not generate revenue for their schools.
Doug Gottlieb: “There’s going to be the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ in sports, there always have been, but the ‘have nots’ have been able to make it work with everyone around campus and with all of their sports, and now it’ll become increasingly difficult because to even play ball at all, you gotta pay some of these student athletes…and the money has to come from somewhere. The money has to come from somewhere. And it’s going to come from the same pot of money that handles how much you travel, what you spend on, how much you recruit, what you spend on your assistant coaches, and most importantly, how much you spend on other sports that don’t make any revenue.”
